Rural America Solutions Group

In April 2009, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) announced that Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Frank Lucas (OK-3), Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Doc Hastings (R-WA), and Small Business Committee Ranking Member Sam Graves (MO-6) would lead a group of Republicans tasked with developing solutions to address the issues facing Rural America. 

President Obama promised to hold a summit on rural issues within his first 100 days in office, but has not done so.  The Rural America Solutions Group will focus on solutions that create jobs and economic opportunities as well as address the unique challenges rural communities face.

“Those who live and work in rural America are struggling to make a living in a difficult economy.  It’s important that rural communities have a strong voice in Washington who know their struggles and are able to provide viable solutions.  I am pleased to be a part of an effort that understands the needs of our farmers, ranchers, and rural constituents,” said Ranking Member Lucas when the group’s formation was announced.
